James Brydon
The Nymphaea ‘James Brydon’ is a classic, hardy water lily hybridized by William Dreer in 1900 in the USA. It is renowned for its deep pink, peony-shaped blooms, measuring 4–6 inches across. These flowers are not the earliest to bloom, but they produce an impressive number of blossoms that stand out against the burgundy-tinged leaves, which gradually mature to a medium green.
This versatile water lily thrives in a depth range of 6–48 inches and can tolerate partial shade better than most red hardy varieties. It has a spread of 4–12 feet and is suitable for small to large ponds, making it a reliable choice for diverse aquatic settings. Though it requires minimal sunlight, its vibrant blooms and foliage make it a standout addition to any water garden.
